Riu with record sales for 2023

With sales up 24% to 3.6 billion euros, the Spanish hotel chain RIU Hotels & Resorts closes a successful 2023. In 2024, CEO Luis Riu will continue to focus on expansion with new openings in Mauritius, Jamaica and Chicago as well as extensive renovations and new services.
Last year, 6.4 million customers spent their holidays in a hotel of the Spanish chain. Riu currently operates 97 hotels with 50,000 rooms and employs 35,808 people. The Spanish family-run company is proud of the high number of regular guests: 38% chose Riu as their host again and again. Gross turnover climbed to 3.6 billion euros, 24% more than last year, according to CEO Luis Riu in a blog post on the company’s website.
The increase is partly due to price increases of around 10% and partly to the high occupancy rate, which was 5% higher than in 2022 at an average of 89%.

The most important projects for 2024
Four new hotels will open in 2024: The Riu Palace Aquarell in Falmouth will complete the chain’s offering in Jamaica as its seventh hotel. The opening is planned for May 2024. The two hotels Riu Turquoise and Riu Palace Mauritius will also welcome guests to the African island of Mauritius in May.
With great excitement Riu is looking westwards to Chicago, where another prestigious property, the Riu Plaza Chicago in the Streeterville district, will be added to the Plaza city line in the USA at the end of the year.
The Riu Palace Bavaro in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and the Riu Negril in Jamaica are undergoing extensive renovations. According to Luis Riu, these renovations not only serve to modernise facilities, but also to introduce new services, such as the Riu Party and the Elite Club for particularly discerning guests.
